Agartala lies on the Hoara river, and is the capital of Tripura. It is located 2 kms away from Bangladesh, and has a population of 189,327 (as per the 2001 census).

Agartala is always been known for its beautiful tourist spots and scenic beauty. The biggest of all tourist attractions in Agartala is the Ujjayanta Palace, where lot of tourist visit every year. Other important tourist spots include Kunjaban Palace, Pilak & Venuban Vihara, State Museum, Unakoti, Neermahal Palace, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, etc.

Agartala always witness a moderate climate with summer days temperature ranging from 40 °C- 18 °C and winters 12 °C - 5 °C.

Durga Puja is one of the main festivals for the people of Agartala, which they celebrate with great enthusiasm every year.

Educational Scenario of Agartala

With two famous universities namely Tripura University, Institute of Chartered Financial Analyses of India (ICFAI), , and many other famous schools and colleges, Itanagar is not behind in rendering excellent quality education to its student.

It can boast of some of the best schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Bhavan’s Tripura Vidya Mandir, Holy Cross School, Survodaya Public School, Pranavananda Vidya Mandir, etc.

Among the city's many other institutions of higher learning are the Women’s Polytechnic, Bhavan's Tripura College of Communication and Management, Agartala Government Medical College, The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India ( ICFAI ), Pailan Aviation Institute, etc.
