Tripura as an Educational Destination

Within its small geographical area, Tripura offers plenty of opportunities for students from both within and outside the state. The state’s literacy rate figures 73.66% according to 2001 census report.

The education system of Tripura follows the conventional education policies to get the highest possible results in primary and secondary education. The Department of Education was established to enable smooth functioning of the education system at all levels. The department was further divided into three separate sections namely; School Education, Higher Education and Social Welfare & Social Education Department.

The Government of Tripura has introduced a free and compulsory education policy that provides education to the students falling in the age group of 6-14 yrs.
The state has one University, two Medical Colleges, one Pharmacy College and a number of Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics and private institutions offering many professional courses.
