The foundation stone of Tripura University was laid on May 1937. After the outbreak of Second World War all the constructions were damaged. After this the construction work could not be started immediately due to certain difficulties and after 17 May, 1947, when Maharaja Bir Bikram breathed his last, Tripura became restive for various reasons. As a result, the entire scheme of Vidyapattan could not be implemented at that time.
